Preventative maintenance and servicing of your Eaton uninterruptible power supply (UPS) is critical at maintaining its optimal performance and continued reliability. This health-check can identify potential problems before they occur, ensuring that your 24-hour power protection system is ready if it’s called into action.
Carter Sullivan is the UK’s only Eaton-approved partner for UPS maintenance and service. This unique relationship makes us the UK’s first choice for Eaton UPS support. In this article, we discuss the importance of regular UPS servicing and maintenance, the servicing procedure and details of the in-depth training that our technicians receive.
Eaton-Approved Partner
Eaton doesn’t train anyone to service or repair their equipment; our technicians are the only ones in the UK that receive training from the world’s leading supplier of UPS systems. Our technicians receive expert training from Eaton on how to service, maintain and repair their UPS systems.
Carter Sullivan’s relationship with Eaton stretches back decades, and to-date, we’ve installed and maintained thousands of Eaton UPS systems across the UK. This long-term partnership gives us a unique insight into how Eaton systems work. We’re able to call on Eaton if we need parts to service or repair your UPS, and can often get these quicker than our competitors.
Eaton UPS Maintenance & Servicing Procedure
Preventative UPS maintenance, according to factory-recommended schedules, is essential to ensuring its performance and reliability. It’s also crucial to validating your Eaton UPS warranty.
Common causes of UPS failure include damaged or deteriorating batteries, faulty fans, degraded capacitors and transient spikes. During a scheduled Eaton UPS service, our technicians will begin by inspecting the unit. This involves physical checks on the UPS’s physical components, checking that all batteries remain sealed, terminals are secured, and all cabling is undamaged.
The technician will then download the UPS’s event logs to identify how frequently the unit has been called into action. They will ensure that all software and firmware is up to date and help identify any issues that may have occurred. They will then conduct a series of switching tests (UPS to bypass and UPS to battery) that check that the UPS is working properly. They will also check that all remote monitoring systems are functioning correctly too.
Our Eaton service packages are thorough, with our trained technicians inspecting, testing, calibrating, updating and cleaning your UPS.
How Long Will My Eaton UPS Service Take?
The length of your service depends on the size of your UPS system. Maintenance processes on smaller UPS systems can take up to 1 hour, with larger units taking between 1 – 3 hours.
Servicing and maintenance procedures can be conducted outside of working hours to minimise any potential disruption to the business. As long as your UPS system has a bypass switch, the servicing process should cause no disruption to the day-to-day operation of your business.
How Often Should My Eaton UPS Be Serviced?
The frequency of servicing depends on a number of factors, including the conditions the UPS operates in and how often it is called into action. Eaton recommends that you service your UPS system yearly, but if the operating environment is harsh (prone to frequent power outages or used in a tough industrial setting), then servicing intervals may be shorter. In some cases, your UPS must be serviced quarterly. During this process, we may advise battery replacements.
When designing your UPS system, our experts will advise you of maintenance schedules and suitable service contracts that are available.
Trained Technicians
Every one of our technicians goes through a comprehensive in-house training process to ensure that they can tackle any problems that they may encounter. Each stage builds on previous stages to give our staff an unrivalled knowledge of all Eaton UPS products, as well as those offered by Riello and APC.
Our three training levels include:
- UPS servicing
- Fault finding and repair
- Senior engineering tasks
We’re confident that our UPS engineers are the best in the business. They benefit from our state-of-the-art training facility where all of our technicians go through a thorough training process before they set foot on company sites.
Unlike many of our competitors, before our UPS maintenance and service engineers work on client sites, they are shadowed by a senior engineer until they meet our exacting standards. Only when we’re happy will we let them work on your critical power systems.
