Shared Access – The National Gallery
Client Shared Access - The National Gallery
The challenge
Our client had installed a DAS (Distributed Antenna System) to provide mobile coverage for all 4 UK operators inside the National Gallery's original thick stone and brick walls. This was located in a hub 4 miles away from site and connected via dedicated dark fibre. Our client required a UPS to protect this system for a minimum of 2 hours in the event of an outage. They also needed to protect the cooling in the room for the same period.
2 x APC Easy UPS 40kW
Combined bypass panel for 2 x UPS
OUR CHALLENGES
The room available to us to house the UPS was very small. It had limited space for any UPS, but we had to fit 2 UPS’s with 2 hours worth of battery and switchgear.
It was also located in the basement of a busy office in London with convoluted access.
THE PROJECT
Carter Sullivan selected an APC Easy UPS with high capacity battery modules to power each load. The APC units had the smallest footprint available in this power range and the high capacity battery strings gave us the longest autonomy possible.
We also designed and built our own combined UPS panel with external maintenance bypass for 2 separate UPS units.
We delivered and positioned the units in the comms room negotiating stairs, lifts, corridors and the existing server racks.
OUR HIGHLIGHTS
Installation and prep work was completed during the week with minimal fuss and no disruption, working with the clients electrical contractor to ensure a neat and tidy install.
Commissioning took place on a Saturday evening with a load test the following weekend.
Procured with the UPS was a 5 year fully comprehensive maintenance contract which we will provide in house. Carter Sullivan are trained and authorised by Schneider to commission, service and repair the APC Easy UPS range.
The client was pleased with the finished project as it was delivered within the deadline and within their budget. We also designed the install for them so all they had to do was give us a supply and we took care of the rest.
